Our Ottawa dentist performs tooth extractions and wisdom teeth removal when a tooth cannot be saved, or is negatively impacting your oral health.
What is a Tooth Extraction?
At Bearbrook Dental Centre Ottawa, our dentist performs tooth extractions only when a less invasive option would be ineffective, or if keeping the tooth would compromise your oral health.
This procedure involves removing a tooth from its socket in the bone. Common reasons for pulling a tooth include excessive tooth damage and problematic wisdom teeth. These teeth are also sometimes pulled to prepare for other dental procedures.
Wisdom Tooth Removal in Ottawa
The last set of molars to erupt in the back corners of a normal adult mouth are wisdom teeth. These teeth usually appear between 17 and 25 years of age for most patients.
A patient's third set of teeth is not always functional, and may crowd out other teeth as they develop. They can also cause problems for your oral hygiene. In these cases, your dentist may recommend having them removed.
Repairing Excessive Damage in Ottawa
In most cases, your dentist will attempt to save a tooth whenever possible. However, some circumstances including gum disease, excessive decay or injury will require extraction.
If a damaged tooth needs to be extracted, the dentist will discuss tooth replacement options with you.
These may include dental crowns, dental bridges, and dentures.
